Podiatric Surgery & Medicine

Podiatry is the treatment of all conditions relating to the foot or ankle — from the inside (bone, tendon and muscle) out, including skin and nails. Stamford Hospital's doctors of podiatric medicine (DPMs) are trained in surgical, orthopedic and nonsurgical treatments. Most foot surgeries can be performed on an outpatient basis at the Tully Health Center, where our board-certified or board-eligible podiatrists utilize the latest technology to perform a variety of surgical procedures.

Our podiatrists treat foot and ankle conditions including:

  • Diabetic footcare
  • Reconstructive foot surgery
  • Sports medicine foot and ankle procedures and injuries
  • Assessment of  biomechanics/orthotics
  • Bunion removal foot surgery
  • Correction of hammer, mallet and claw toes
  • Treatment of neuromas
  • Plantar fasciitis surgery
  • Removal of cysts and ganglions and other soft tissue masses
  • Removal of bone spurs

Also, Stamford Hospital podiatrists offer laser foot surgery for resistant toe fungus. In clinical trials of this promising new surgical technique, lasers have shown better results than topical or oral antifungal podiatric medications. It kills the fungus at the nail plate, bed and root so it cannot recur. Discuss with your physician or podiatrist whether lasers are right for your particular foot or ankle surgery.

Stamford Hospital's Department of Podiatry works collaboratively with other hospital departments, providing referrals as needed. Patients with Medicaid or Medicare can be seen at the podiatry clinic at Optimus Healthcare, located at 1315 Washington Blvd. in downtown Stamford.
