Trauma/Emergency Care Center

Stamford Hospital is a state-designated Level II Trauma Center--one of only eight in Connecticut.

Stamford Hospital is a Level II American College of Surgeons verified trauma center providing acute care to emergency patients injured in Stamford and the surrounding communities. Our around-the-clock, continually operating services include fellowship-trained board-certified trauma surgeons who work with our emergency room physicians, surgical residents, nurses and trauma support staff. Stamford Hospital has made the commitment to provide resources and personnel to deliver a full range of trauma services at all times.

Stamford Hospital is a participant in the National Trauma Database Quality Improvement Pilot project aimed at providing improved outcomes for trauma patients. The trauma service actively reviews and performs trauma-related research which has lead to improved emergency patient care both in our community and throughout the country.

Emergency surgeries are those that must be performed immediately in order to save a patient's life or prevent permanent harm or disability. Each year, we treat more than 1,000 emergency patients who have been in accidents involving motor vehicles or falls, or are victims of violence. These patients who require supportive medical care and operative procedures are cared for not only by trauma but many of the subspecialty services including orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, ophthalmology, urology and vascular. Our team remains involved in trauma care from admission through discharge.

Surgical Critical Care is provided by critical care fellowship-trained surgeons who direct a team of surgeons and staff in caring for patients who have been severely injured. All surgical patients admitted to the intensive care units are supported by the surgical critical care team, which provides expertise in critical care management.
